Flooring FAQs
Flooring FAQs — Questions & Answers from Harmony Flooring
1. How long does flooring installation take?
Installation time depends on the room size and the type of flooring. Most residential hardwood installations take 1–3 days. Vinyl plank (LVP) typically takes 1–2 days, and carpet installation usually 1 day. At Harmony Flooring, we handle all prep work, removal of old flooring, and cleanup, so you can move back into the space quickly. We’ll give you an exact timeline during your free consultation.
2. What’s the difference between hardwood and luxury vinyl plank (LVP)?
Hardwood offers authentic beauty and can last 50+ years with proper care, but requires regular sealing and is sensitive to moisture—not ideal for kitchens or basements. Luxury vinyl plank is waterproof, extremely durable, scratch-resistant, easier to maintain, and more affordable. It’s perfect for active families, pet owners, and moisture-prone areas. Hardwood gives timeless elegance; LVP gives durability and low maintenance. At Harmony Flooring, we help you choose based on your lifestyle and budget during your free consultation.
3. How much does flooring installation cost in Madison?
Cost varies by room size, flooring type, and current floor condition. Carpet runs $3–8 per sq ft installed, LVP $5–10 per sq ft, hardwood $8–15 per sq ft, and tile $8–12 per sq ft. A 200 sq ft room might range from $600–$3000+ depending on material and prep work needed. The best way to get an accurate price is to schedule your free in-home consultation with Harmony Flooring. We’ll measure, assess your space, and provide a same-day estimate with no obligation.
4. Do you offer financing options?
Yes! Harmony Flooring partners with financing providers to make your flooring project affordable. We offer flexible payment plans with competitive rates. Ask about financing options during your consultation—we can discuss what works best for your budget.
5. What’s the warranty on your installation?
Harmony Flooring stands behind our work with a 1-year installation warranty. We also honor the manufacturer’s warranty on the flooring material itself (typically 10–25 years depending on the product). This gives you confidence that your investment is protected. Ask for full warranty details during your consultation.
6. Can I install new flooring over my existing floor?
Sometimes, but not always. Hardwood requires removal of the old floor. LVP and carpet can sometimes be installed over existing flooring if it’s stable and level. The best approach depends on your current floor condition. During your free in-home consultation, our experts will assess your space and recommend the best (and most cost-effective) installation method.
7. What’s the best flooring for pets?
Pet owners love luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and high-quality carpet tiles. LVP is scratch-resistant, waterproof (easy cleanup for accidents), and durable enough for high traffic. Commercial-grade carpet tiles are replaceable if one gets damaged. Hardwood is less ideal for pets because nails can scratch the finish. Harmony Flooring offers several pet-friendly options—we’ll help you find the perfect fit during your consultation.
8. How do I care for hardwood floors?
Hardwood requires regular maintenance: vacuum or sweep weekly, avoid excess water/moisture, use a hardwood-specific cleaner monthly, and consider re-sealing every 3–5 years depending on foot traffic. Use rugs in high-traffic areas and felt pads under furniture. Keep humidity levels consistent (40–50%) to prevent cupping and gaps. Harmony Flooring can provide detailed care instructions when your flooring is installed.
9. Is waterproof flooring really waterproof?
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is waterproof, meaning water won’t damage the planks themselves. However, if water sits under the planks for extended periods, it can still damage the subfloor. For bathrooms, kitchens, and wet areas, LVP is excellent, but always dry spills quickly. Laminate, by contrast, is water-resistant but not waterproof. For kitchens and bathrooms, we recommend LVP or tile. Our team will guide you during your consultation.
10. What flooring works best for open-concept living spaces?
For open-concept homes, many people choose a single flooring type throughout for visual continuity. LVP or large-format tile create a seamless look and are practical for high-traffic areas. If you want to define zones, you can use color variations within the same material type, or transition between complementary materials at natural boundaries. Harmony Flooring can show you samples and help you design a cohesive look during your consultation.
