Flooring FAQs

Choosing a Floor

Which flooring is best for a kitchen?

Vinyl plank and tile handle spills and traffic best. Hardwood works too if you wipe up water fast. We’ll walk your kitchen with you and show samples that fit how you cook and clean. See vinyl plank, tile and hardwood.

What’s the best flooring for a basement?

Vinyl plank, tile or carpet made for below grade. Solid hardwood is out because of moisture. A basement slab needs a moisture test from a testing firm or your general contractor before we recommend anything. Read our basement flooring guide.

Is vinyl plank really waterproof?

Most vinyl plank is water resistant on the surface. Some lines are rated waterproof through the core. We’ll tell you which is which for your room. No floor stops water that gets under it from a flood.

Hardwood or vinyl plank, which should I pick?

Hardwood is real wood and can be refinished later. Vinyl plank is easier to live with around water, kids and pets. See our compare floors page, or call and we’ll talk it through in five minutes.

Can I see the floor in my own room before I buy?

Yes. Use our online visualizer with a photo of your room. Then borrow samples from the showroom or we’ll bring them to you.

Which brands do you carry?

Shaw, Mohawk, Mannington, Daltile and MSI for homes. Commercial lines from J&J, Patcraft, Shaw Commercial, Mannington and more.

What It Costs

What affects the cost of new flooring?

The floor you pick, the square footage, tear-out of the old floor, subfloor repairs, stairs, and moving furniture. We give you one written number after we measure. Call or text 608-221-5500 to set that up.

Do you offer financing?

Financing options are available. Ask on your first call and we’ll explain what fits.

My floor was damaged by a leak. Do you work with insurance?

Yes. We’ll talk to your insurance adjuster and give them the measurements and quote they need. You handle the claim itself.

How a Project Works

What happens on the first call?

A short chat about your room, your timing and what you’re leaning toward. Then we decide together: you visit the showroom, or we come to you.

Is the in-home visit free?

Yes. The person who visits is the same person who runs your project start to finish.

Who installs the floor?

Trusted local installers we’ve worked with for years. One Harmony coordinator schedules everything and stays your contact until the job is done.

How long does an installation take?

Most single rooms take a day. A whole main floor usually takes two to four days. We give you dates before we order material.

Do you move furniture and remove the old floor?

Yes. Tear-out and haul-away are part of the quote. You can move furniture yourself. Or the installers can move it as part of the labor. We settle that with you before install day. Tell us about pianos, aquariums or built-ins ahead of time.

Do you stand behind your work?

Yes. We stand behind our work. One coordinator stays on your project until the final walkthrough.
